About this collection
Four slow days on Bali’s east coast, built from Anna’s own map of the place she keeps coming back to. You stay at Amed Lodge by Sudamala Resorts, on the beach about a 10-minute walk from Jemeluk Bay.
Mornings start early: Anna is on the beach at 5:30 for the sunrise, then in the water: snorkelling at Jemeluk from 8 am, freediving at Apneista if you want to try it, a last swim before you leave. One early start takes you up to Lahangan Sweet for sunrise over Mount Agung, then to Pura Lempuyang before the queues. One day loops through the east: Virgin Beach, Yeh Malet Lake, a seafood lunch in Kusamba and the rice fields of Sidemen. Afternoons stay open for the pool, a bike ride along the coast or a nap.
Good for travellers who want a quieter Bali, couples and solo travellers. Not for nightlife or shopping.
Good to know: the airport is about 2.5 to 3 hours away by car. For the sunrise morning and the day in the east you need a driver; the hotel or a local driver can arrange one.
Amed is where Bali slows me down. I come here for the water in the morning, long walks on the beach and quiet evenings with the people who live here. This is the Amed I’d show a friend.
