Your First Bali Week, Part 1: Four Nights in Ubud

About this collection

The first half of a first week in Bali: four nights at Komaneka at Bisma, on a hillside above the Campuhan river. Central Ubud's restaurants are about ten minutes on foot, so you get a quiet valley at night and dinner out without a taxi.

The days go to Ubud's best-known places, each one early: the Campuhan Ridge Walk before mid-morning, Tegalalang before the tour buses, then the water temple at Tirta Empul. From November to March it rains on most days, so plan your outings for the morning. The meal plan varies by rate. You see which meals are included before you pay.

Good for first-timers, couples and friends. Not for anyone who wants the beach first, or nightlife. Part 2 continues with three nights at AYANA Resort Bali in Jimbaran, about 30 minutes from the airport. Best months: April to October, the drier half of the year.

We start a first Bali week in Ubud because the first nights after a long flight should be quiet, and the last ones should be close to the airport. We chose Komaneka because you can walk to dinner from it.

Winter Sun in Sharm, With Kids

Six nights at JAZ Mirabel, one large Nabq Bay complex with a kids' club, kids' pools with slides, an aqua park and a 735 m jetty across the lagoon to the reef. In winter one main pool and the kids' pool in the Park section are heated, so this plan books a family room there. The beach is about 500 m from Park, and the airport about 10 km from the hotel. There are three outings, all optional: a morning on the Seascope, an evening at Soho Square for the fountain show, and a Ras Mohammed boat day for older children. The meal plan varies by rate. You see which meals are included before you pay. Good for families with school-age children in the February half-term (15-19 February 2027) or at Easter. Not for anyone after quiet, since the shows by the pools are loud, or for families who want evenings out: Naama Bay is 19 km away. Best months: January to April. In February the sea and the air are both around 23°C. From April, book the family room in the Beach section instead.

Seven nights at Sunrise Diamond Beach, the biggest of the Um El Sid hill resorts in Hadaba: 440 rooms in 11 buildings stepping down to a small sandy beach and a jetty over a good reef. There is an aqua park, four pools, a kids' club for ages 4 to 12 that stays open until 10 pm, and an adults-only pool and a 16+ beach area for when the grown-ups want a break. In July and August highs reach 38-39°C, so the plan puts the sea before 11 am, a rest in the middle of the day and the slides later. Two days out are optional: the Seascope and, for older children, a boat day in Ras Mohammed. The buffet gets loud at peak hours, so some dinners in the plan are at the à la carte restaurants. The meal plan varies by rate. You see which meals are included before you pay. Good for families with children aged 4 to 12 and for anyone who wants slides and a reef in the same hotel. Not for anyone with limited mobility: the site climbs a steep hill, with steps and a shuttle bus between the buildings and the beach. Best months: May to September, including the summer school holidays.
