Samabe is a small resort on a cliff in Sawangan, at the quiet southern end of Nusa Dua: 81 suites and villas on eight hectares above the Indian Ocean. Suites have ocean-facing balconies or, on the first floor, a pool and garden of their own, and the villas have private pools. A lift runs down the cliff to a secluded white-sand cove.

Days move between the infinity pool and the cove, where you can kayak, paddleboard, windsurf, snorkel or go out on the catamaran. There is yoga six mornings a week, cooking, batik and dance classes, the small Galangal Spa and the Lumba-Lumba Kids Club. Rempah2 serves Balinese and international food beside a lagoon, Crystal Blue Ocean Grill sits high above the sea, and dinner can be set up on the beach. Meal plan varies by rate; you see what is included on the booking screen before you pay.

The catch is distance. Nothing is walkable, reviewers put Kuta and Seminyak 40 minutes or more away, and some find the food repetitive over a long stay. The cove has seagrass, not coral. Come between April and October if you can: November to March is the wetter season, and this far out a rainy day means staying in. Book the Ocean Front Pool Suite.

Book it if…

Honeymooners — Ocean-facing suites, a quiet pool and dinners set up on the beach.
Couples who stay in — Yoga, cooking and batik classes fill the days without leaving the resort.
Families with older kids — Snorkelling from age 8, paddleboarding from 10, Family Suites for five.

Skip it if…

Nightlife seekers — Kuta and Seminyak are 40 minutes or more away by car.
Reef snorkellers — The cove has calm water and seagrass, not coral.
Restaurant hoppers — A handful of venues on site, and nothing to walk to outside the gate.

Know before you book

It is remote: nothing is walkable, and reviewers put Kuta and Seminyak 40 minutes or more away by car.
→ Treat Samabe as the quiet part of your trip and book a car for one or two evenings out, such as sunset at Uluwatu.
Some guests find the food repetitive over a long stay, especially the breakfast buffet.
→ Order from the menu at breakfast, and break up the week with Crystal Blue Ocean Grill or a dinner set up on the beach.
The cove is calm but has seagrass rather than coral, and snorkelling and paddleboarding run only from 9am to 5pm.
→ Use the cove for kayaking, paddleboarding and the catamaran, which depends on tide and wind. For coral, arrange a separate boat trip.

The resort is lovely. I hope they can bring the main restaurant up to five star standards.
Property is gorgeous. Huge suite.
— Restaurant food was terrible. We ate at the restaurant next to the main lobby for dinner one night and breakfast one morning. For dinner, I ordered Nasi Goreng (Bali’s favorite dish), and it comes with two grilled prawns. The prawns were cold, the sauce on them had no flavor. I only ate one prawn. I also ordered duck spring rolls as an appetizer and the oil they are fried in must not be hot enough because the fry oil was still oozing out of the rolls. Oil everywhere. For the breakfast visit, I ordered an omelette made to order at the buffet. I asked for medium to well done eggs. The inside of the omelette was pretty runny and I ended up with salmonella poisoning later that day which was our day to travel home on three flights totaling 24 hours on planes. It was a horrible trip home.

Questions before you book

Is Samabe adults-only?

No. Children are welcome: there is the Lumba-Lumba Kids Club, Family Suites sleep up to five, and babysitting is available. Most guests are couples, though, and the resort is quiet. The hotel does not publish the kids' club ages, so ask before booking.

How do you get down to the beach at Samabe?

By lift. Samabe sits on a cliff, and a lift runs down to its secluded white-sand cove, with steps as an alternative. The water is calm, and there are kayaks, paddleboards, windsurfers and a catamaran. Private beach cabanas cost extra: IDR 6,000,000 per couple for a day, as of October 2026.

How far is Samabe from the airport?

About 30 minutes by car. The hotel runs an airport shuttle; ask about the cost when you book.

Which room should I book at Samabe?

Samabe Ocean Front Pool Suite - Free Benefit: 180 m² with its own 18 m² pool. Samabe Ocean Front Suite - Free Benefit is the cheaper 135 m² suite without a pool. Families of up to five should take Family Ocean Front Suite - Free Benefit, which has two queen beds.

Is there anything within walking distance of Samabe?

No, nothing beyond the resort and its cove. The Apurva Kempinski, home to the aquarium restaurant Koral, is under 1 km away as the crow flies, and Uluwatu Temple and Kuta Beach are about 14 km. You need a car or taxi for all of them.

Can Turkish citizens visit Bali without a visa?

Yes. As of October 2026, Turkish citizens can visit Indonesia, Bali included, without a visa for up to 30 days. That is plenty for a week at Samabe and a few nights in Ubud.
