Novotel is the sensible first-time Sharm base: a big, well-run Naama Bay resort where you can walk to the promenade in the evening and wade straight into the sea in the morning, which is rarer in Sharm than it sounds. It is not a quiet hideaway and not the best house reef on the coast. Book it for the location and the beach, choose the Beach Wing if you can, and go to Ras Um Sid or Sharks Bay for the serious snorkelling.
Novotel Sharm El Sheikh is two resorts sharing one name. The Beach Wing is on the sand in Naama Bay: Superior rooms, the Al Dente Italian terrace with sea views, the beach bar and the jetty out to the reef. The Palm Wing sits across El Salam Road in older, denser gardens: Standard and family rooms, its own pools and the La Palma buffet, and a calmer feel once you accept the road crossing.
What both sides share is the reason to book: a genuinely sandy, walk-in beach on a coast where most hotels hand you reef shoes, and a location that lets you leave the resort on foot. Naama Bay's promenade, market and bars are a 15-minute walk; the airport is about 15 minutes by car.
The trade-offs are the flip side of the same coin. It is big, it is busy, and the house reef is a jetty reef. If those matter more than walkability, Sharks Bay and Ras Um Sid have better water; if you want a quieter adults-only stay, Meraki in Sharks Bay is the obvious alternative. Meal plan varies by rate - check what your rate includes before assuming dinner is covered.
All the facilities were really good. Food was nice and the staff were really good. Many pools. If you choose Novotel Palm you would have to walk a 5 min walk to the beach which is on the other side.
