A river valley resort in Kedewatan where rice paddies run through the grounds and the Ayung River curves below: 35 suites and rooms on the upper terraces, 25 private pool villas closer to the water, each guest assigned a butler reachable by WhatsApp. It's a real valley site — central Ubud is 7 to 30 minutes by car and the airport 1.5 to 2.5 hours, both traffic-dependent — so book it for the setting and slow pace, not for quick trips out.
Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve sits in Kedewatan, in the river valley Ubud takes its character from: rice paddies run through the grounds, the Ayung River curves below, and rainforest closes in on both sides. Thirty-five suites and rooms share the upper terraces; twenty-five private pool villas step down closer to the water, each guest assigned a personal butler reachable by WhatsApp.
Four dining concepts do different jobs — Kubu (zero-waste, sourced within 100km), Sawah Terrace (Indonesian heritage dishes over the rice fields), Ambar Ubud Bar (Japanese fusion with live jazz) and in-villa dining — alongside a spa, yoga pavilions and a children's programme, Mandapa Camp, for families who bring them.
The valley setting is also the honest catch. Central Ubud is 7 to 30 minutes by car and the airport 1.5 to 2.5 hours, both heavily traffic-dependent, so day trips cost real time. Pool seating is first-come, first-served and some suite buildings have partly blocked views, per reviews — ask for a river-facing room or book a Riverfront Pool Villa if that matters. Meal plan varies by rate.
I stayed at Ritz-Carlton Mandapa for my honeymoon. It was a wonderful and special experience! The thing that stood out the most was the very friendly, precise and welcoming service we received from absolutely everyone.... from lobby to pool bar to maintenance employee, etc. We just felt so taken care of. The food was the highlight also... everything was so delicious and super well done, especially the very extensive breakfast to the restaurant. The room and hotel were also spotless and pristine. Our villa felt like a piece of paradise, with lovely views to the river. Everything magical! Marka, our butler, made our stay even more special. He was constantly checking up on via Whatsapp, asking if we needed something or suggesting activities. Such a special guy that makes a stay like this even more special.
— The pool in our villa was too cold to be usable... a shame, as it was perfect in all other regards.

No. There's a children's programme called Mandapa Camp and the resort welcomes families, though the pace, pricing and butler service skew toward couples and honeymooners.

Very little — this is a valley resort, not a town-centre hotel. Central Ubud is about 7 to 30 minutes by car depending on traffic.
