Pickalbatros Royal Grand sits on the Om El Seid hill in Hadaba, the southern end of Sharm where the shore reefs are best. It is adults-only from 16, around 350 rooms, and the beach is the point: a private stretch of sand and coral with a floating pontoon leading to two house reefs, Paradise and Turtle Bay. Guests who came for the fish rarely complain.
What they do complain about is the rest. Rooms are clean and the beds are fine, but furnishings are tired and bathrooms show their age. The animation team works the main pool from morning to evening, which some love and others flee to the quieter pools. Lift access on a hillside site is limited. The buffet is varied but repeats over a week; the hotel names Soprano and Royal Moderna among its restaurants, and reviewers rate the pastries. Meal plan varies by rate.
Position it correctly and it works: a reef hotel with a social pool scene, a short taxi from Al Fanar and the Old Market, about 18 km from the airport. If you want quiet, look at Jaz Elite Palace on Sharm El Maya bay; if you want newer rooms with a reef, Steigenberger Alcazar in Nabq.

Overall rating: 7.2/10 The food was quite good overall, although we were annoyed by the amount of coriander used in many dishes. The air conditioning was excellent, and the beachfront location and pool bar were decent. The waiters were also excellent, especially Ahmed and Nadir at the pool bar. Both were polite, professional and really good at their jobs. The hotel itself has some good qualities, and these were definitely among the highlights of our stay.
— The hotel is advertised as “couples only,” but honestly, that was not our experience at all. There were a lot of groups of men, especially around the pool. At the pool party, there were roughly 100 men and maybe 15 women. Some of the men were behaving in a very inappropriate and uncomfortable way, and my wife and I felt genuinely uncomfortable because of it. If you advertise a hotel as couples only, this really should not be happening. The alcohol was another disappointment: the drinks were poorly prepared and the quality was very low. We also saw insects in the toilets at least five times during our stay, which is definitely not what you expect from this type of hotel. The entertainment was nothing special, and even worse, the animation team pressured us into writing a Google review despite the fact that we weren’t particularly happy with our stay. The barbecue guy at Soprano Restaurant was also extremely rude and unfriendly. Overall, the “couples only” concept is seriously misleading, and the behavior around the pool made a big difference to our experience. We expected much better.
