A temple in central Ubud, at the top of Jalan Kajeng just off Jalan Raya Ubud. It is dedicated to Saraswati, the goddess of learning, literature and art. A stone walkway leads to it through the middle of a lotus pond. It was built in 1951-1952 at the request of the prince of Ubud, and the sculptor I Gusti Nyoman Lempad designed it and carved many of its statues.
A walkway straight through a lotus pond up to the temple, right in the middle of Ubud. Go early: by mid-morning the groups arrive and the light gets harsh. You can't go into the inner temple, but the pond is the reason to come anyway. Cover your shoulders and knees.

A small design hotel built around an art gallery, live music and a restaurant; there is no shared pool, and only the top suite category has its own. The beach is about six minutes on foot; light sleepers should factor in street noise and thin walls.
