A black-sand beach at the end of Jalan Batu Bolong in central Canggu. The small Pura Batu Bolong temple sits on the rocks at the edge of the sand. The waves are soft and long, suited to beginners and longboarders. Board rentals and surf schools work from the beach, and the street behind it is lined with cafés and beach bars.
Canggu's beginner and longboard beach: soft, long waves and surf schools everywhere. If you're watching rather than surfing, the cafés on the street behind are the place to be. In the water, keep an eye on the boards around you, it gets crowded.
The plan that stops here
A curator note — a personal recommendation, not a bookable product. Not automatically included in any stay or experience.
A small design hotel built around an art gallery, live music and a restaurant; there is no shared pool, and only the top suite category has its own. The beach is about six minutes on foot; light sleepers should factor in street noise and thin walls.
