A wide stretch of sand on Bali's west coast, about 3 km long, running from Double Six in the south to Petitenget and Batu Belig in the north. The sections run into each other, so you can walk the whole length in under an hour. Beach clubs, hotels and restaurants line the back of the beach. The surf is strong and there are rip currents.
Best in the morning, before the heat and the vendors. You can walk from Double Six to Petitenget in under an hour. The surf is strong, so swim only between the flags. A polite no thanks is enough for the massage offers.

A small design hotel built around an art gallery, live music and a restaurant; there is no shared pool, and only the top suite category has its own. The beach is about six minutes on foot; light sleepers should factor in street noise and thin walls.
